Capcom has released a new gameplay trailer for Alex, confirming that the veteran Street Fighter character will join Street Fighter 6 on March 17, 2026. The update is set to roll out across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, and it positions Alex as the third downloadable fighter in the game’s Year 3 lineup.

Alex is best known to long-time fans as the lead character of Street Fighter III: New Generation, first released in 1997. Since then, he has remained a familiar name thanks to his wrestling-inspired approach and his ability to turn one close-range opening into sustained pressure. Capcom is leaning into that identity in Street Fighter 6 with a refreshed move set, a new combat stance, and more than 10 different throws intended to create frequent decision points once Alex gets in. In its announcement, Capcom also highlighted Alex’s long-running “Man with No Allies” reputation in the ring, framing his Street Fighter 6 return as the result of more time spent sharpening his technique.

The gameplay trailer frames Alex as a momentum character. His trademark Power Bomb returns as a central command grab, while other tools are designed to help him establish offense and keep opponents from comfortably disengaging. Capcom’s accompanying description points to attacks like Flash Axe and Flash Chop as key building blocks. Flash Axe is presented as a fast strike with multiple strengths, and Flash Chop is shown opening the door to follow-up grab options after it connects. The footage also highlights Alex’s aerial knee strike as a clean anti-air answer, reinforcing that he has tools for both grounded exchanges and airborne approaches.

A major new element is Prowler Stance. In this stance, Alex gives up some defensive flexibility, but gains a wide set of branching follow-ups—Capcom says there are 11 different options—ranging from additional throws to target sequences meant to keep opponents reacting. In practical terms, stance-driven characters often reward preparation: the more a player understands the branches, the more consistently they can convert reads into clean conversions, while opponents are pressured to learn the matchup so they don’t fall into the same setups repeatedly.

Capcom also spotlighted Alex’s Super Arts, which are showcased in the trailer as big, dramatic sequences. The company has described Raging Spear as a Level 1 option built around a forward burst of force, while Sledgecross Hammer is a Level 2 that emphasizes a strong swinging strike. Another Level 2 sequence, Omega Wing Buster, is positioned as a special follow-up tied to a successful setup. Alex’s Level 3 Super Art, The Final Prison, is described as having multiple animation variations depending on how the move is used and whether it ends a round.

From a content standpoint, Alex will be available automatically for players who own or purchase the Year 3 Character Pass or the Year 3 Ultimate Pass when he releases on March 17. The Year 3 Character Pass includes four additional characters—Sagat, C. Viper, Alex, and Ingrid—along with extra Outfit 1 color options for the Year 3 fighters and a bonus allotment of Drive Tickets, the in-game currency tied to cosmetic unlocks.

Cosmetics are part of the headline, too. Alex’s Outfit 1 is themed around his “Dark Devil” persona, while Outfit 2 draws directly from his classic Street Fighter III design. The gameplay trailer is backed by “GO! ALEX! Hope is Born!”, a theme composed by JAM Project; Capcom has indicated the full version of the track will be released separately.

Year 3 has already added Sagat and C. Viper, and Capcom says Ingrid is still scheduled to arrive later in 2026 to complete the season’s roster. Capcom also said professional wrestler Kenny Omega contributed motion capture for some of Alex’s signature sequences, a detail meant to emphasize the character’s wrestling flavor and physicality in motion.

Street Fighter 6 launched in 2023 and has remained a major pillar for Capcom, combining traditional one-on-one matches with broader modes like World Tour and the online Battle Hub. In its investor materials, Capcom listed Street Fighter 6 at 5.7 million units sold as of September 30, 2025—momentum that helps explain why the publisher continues to treat new fighters as marquee updates.

With the March 17 release date now confirmed, players can expect more official details closer to launch, including full patch notes and any final clarification on how Alex’s stance options will fit into the game’s current balance. For now, the gameplay trailer offers the clearest preview yet of how Street Fighter 6 is reintroducing a series staple for a new era.
