The Elder Scrolls 6 may finally have a new mystery for fans to solve. A recent post from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has fueled speculation that Bethesda Game Studios’ long-awaited RPG could carry the subtitle “Sentinel,” although neither Bethesda nor Xbox has confirmed that name.

The theory began after Sharma said she had watched a live playthrough of the game on August 11. In her post, she referred to it as “The Elder Scrolls VI: ********,” placing exactly eight asterisks after the colon. She also praised what she had seen, describing the game’s scale and story in enthusiastic terms.

Bethesda Game Studios then added fuel to the discussion by replying that it had been great to show her “********,” once again using eight asterisks. That repetition quickly attracted attention from fans searching for any information about a game that has remained largely out of public view since its original announcement.

The important distinction is that neither post actually says the hidden subtitle contains eight letters. The asterisks could simply be a playful redaction, and Bethesda has not announced an official subtitle. For now, treating the number of stars as a clue is a fan interpretation rather than a confirmed detail about the game.

Still, “Sentinel” has emerged as one of the most compelling guesses because it fits the eight-character pattern and already has a place in The Elder Scrolls universe. Sentinel is an established location in Hammerfell, a region that has frequently appeared in fan theories about where The Elder Scrolls 6 could be set. Bethesda has not officially confirmed Hammerfell as the setting either, so one theory is currently being used to support another.

A separate discovery involving Starfield has made the Sentinel idea even more interesting. Fans pointed to the employee number shown during Starfield’s character creation sequence: 190514-2009140512. Splitting that string into pairs produces 19, 05, 14, 20, 09, 14, 05 and 12. Matching those numbers to their respective positions in the English alphabet spells S-E-N-T-I-N-E-L.

That is a real pattern in the number, but its significance remains unknown. It could be an intentional Easter egg planted by Bethesda, a clue connected to The Elder Scrolls 6, or simply a sequence that fans have found a meaningful way to interpret. There has been no official confirmation that the Starfield employee number was designed to reveal the next Elder Scrolls subtitle.

The timing does make the renewed speculation notable. Bethesda Game Studios said in July 2026 that The Elder Scrolls VI had become its primary development focus, with the majority of the team working on the next chapter. The studio also said it was developing the game using Creation Engine 3 and that the team was already playing it regularly. Sharma’s subsequent reference to a live playthrough provides another indication that a playable internal version exists, but it does not establish how close the project is to release.

That distinction matters after such a long wait. The Elder Scrolls VI was first revealed in 2018, but Bethesda has still not announced a release date, final subtitle, confirmed setting or detailed gameplay presentation for the public. Years of limited official information have naturally turned small details into major discussion points among fans.

There are other possible interpretations of the eight asterisks, and there is no guarantee they represent the exact number of letters in the eventual subtitle at all. Even if Bethesda deliberately invited speculation by repeating them, teasing a mystery is not the same as revealing its solution.

For now, The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel is best understood as a well-developed fan theory rather than the game’s confirmed name. The eight asterisks, Sentinel’s connection to Elder Scrolls lore and the unusual Starfield number give the theory several pieces of circumstantial evidence, but the decisive piece is still missing: an official announcement from Bethesda.

Until that happens, “Sentinel” remains an intriguing possibility, not the title players should consider settled.
