Marvel’s Wolverine is now in the final stretch before launch, and the technical picture across Sony’s two current PlayStation 5 models is becoming much clearer.
The game is set to launch for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026, and Sony officially lists it as PS5 Pro Enhanced. That means the same release is designed to run on both the standard PS5 family and the more powerful PS5 Pro, with platform-specific enhancements on the latter.
For owners of the base PlayStation 5, the most important detail is that Insomniac Games has not treated 60 frames per second as a feature reserved for the Pro console.
In an interview ahead of launch, senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed said the studio targeted a 60 FPS performance mode on the standard PS5 from early in development. Insomniac also confirmed that ray tracing remains active in that mode, making it the default presentation on the base console.
That is a notable change from the studio’s previous PlayStation 5 releases. Games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 offered separate fidelity and performance configurations, with the balance between resolution, ray tracing and frame rate depending on the selected mode.
Marvel’s Wolverine was designed around the faster target earlier in production, rather than treating a high-frame-rate ray-traced mode as a late addition.
The PS5 Pro version adds another layer to that presentation.
Sony’s official Marvel’s Wolverine page identifies the title as PS5 Pro Enhanced and confirms support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, on the upgraded console. Sony says the technology is used to deliver improved image quality and frame-rate performance.
What Sony has not yet published is a complete side-by-side specification sheet for every graphics mode. Exact internal rendering resolutions, the full list of ray-traced effects and any additional high-refresh-rate options should therefore not be treated as confirmed until Sony or Insomniac provides those details.
The important point is that PS5 Pro support does not replace the performance target on the standard machine.
Players using the base PS5 are still getting the 60 FPS performance mode with ray tracing that Insomniac built around during development, while PS5 Pro owners receive an enhanced version that can make use of the console’s additional graphics hardware and PSSR reconstruction.
The game’s more focused structure may also help explain why Insomniac has been able to prioritize this kind of performance.
Unlike the studio’s recent Spider-Man games, Marvel’s Wolverine is not an open-world title. It is a narrative-driven action adventure built around more directed environments, including locations such as Madripoor and Japan.
That structure gives the developers a different performance budget than a continuous open-world city while still supporting dense combat encounters, destructible scenery, reactive environments and the visual effects associated with Logan’s claws and healing factor.
Marvel’s Wolverine is developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
It launches on September 15, 2026 for PlayStation 5, with PS5 Pro enhancements available on Sony’s upgraded console.
