KONAMI is bringing one of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force series’ most notable entries back with a full remake.
Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX has been officially announced for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, with a worldwide release scheduled for February 16, 2027.
The new game is a remake of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE 3, the card-game RPG originally released in 2008 during the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era.
Rather than simply re-releasing the original title, KONAMI says TAG FORCE GX is being rebuilt with modern visuals, enhanced Dueling systems and additional content while preserving the school-life and partner mechanics that defined the series.
Players return to Duel Academy for their final year as a student.
The central structure revolves around choosing another character as a partner, building a relationship with that character and competing together in Tag Duels.
More than 100 visually upgraded characters will be available as potential partners.
Building affinity with classmates remains an important part of progression, allowing players to experience school life, strengthen relationships and prepare for the game’s Graduation Duel.
KONAMI is also substantially expanding the card pool.
Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX will feature more than 3,800 cards, including additional cards that were not available in the original GX TAG FORCE 3.
The selection is designed to support strategies and Deck archetypes associated with the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX period while providing a much larger set of options than players had in the 2008 game.
That combination of nostalgia and modernization is central to how KONAMI is positioning the remake.
Characters and monster scenes have received visual upgrades, while Dueling itself has been updated for current hardware.
The remake also expands life outside individual card battles.
Players will be able to explore Duel Academy, investigate different areas and participate in extracurricular activities that include new and reworked minigames.
A Gallery Mode will also allow players to revisit story scenes from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE 2, giving the remake an additional connection to the earlier games in the series.
One of the largest additions is online multiplayer.
KONAMI says players will be able to enter Casual Duels or create Room Matches and compete against players around the world.
Both traditional 1v1 battles and Tag Duels will be supported online.
That represents a significant expansion over the structure of the original GX TAG FORCE 3 and gives the partner-based concept a modern multiplayer component.
The announcement is also particularly notable for players in the Americas.
Nintendo’s official product listing states that Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX marks the first official release in the Americas of content from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE 3.
The original PSP title was released in territories including Japan and Europe, but it never received an official launch in North America or Latin America.
That means the 2027 remake will give many longtime Yu-Gi-Oh! players in those regions their first officially localized opportunity to experience the Tag Force 3 story and systems.
Pre-orders have already opened, with different bonuses depending on platform.
Nintendo eShop early purchases include a code for Yu-Gi-Oh! MASTER DUEL that can unlock digital versions of Yubel, Wicked Canon and Hope for the Future, along with a Winged Kuriboh Mate.
The Steam release instead includes digital bonus content such as wallpapers and icons.
Physical Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 editions also have their own incentives, with KONAMI highlighting special Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game cards associated with the release.
The game itself remains focused on the GX period.
Players attend Duel Academy, interact with characters from the anime era and develop a relationship with their selected partner as they progress through the final school year.
The Japanese announcement from KONAMI also notes that strengthening the bond with a partner can lead to events that were not depicted in the anime, including alternative scenarios involving certain characters.
For longtime fans, that relationship system was one of the features that distinguished Tag Force from Yu-Gi-Oh! games built almost exclusively around isolated card battles.
TAG FORCE GX appears designed to preserve that identity rather than transform the project into a conventional modern competitive simulator.
At the same time, its larger card pool, rebuilt presentation and online battles are intended to make the experience less dependent on nostalgia alone.
The reveal arrives during a period in which KONAMI has continued to maintain several different Yu-Gi-Oh! gaming experiences, ranging from the competitive free-to-play Master Duel to projects that revisit older periods of the franchise.
TAG FORCE GX takes a different approach by reconstructing a specific RPG from the series’ past.
It is therefore both a remake and a revival of a style of Yu-Gi-Oh! game that has been largely absent from modern platforms.
KONAMI has released an official announcement trailer showing the updated characters, Duel Academy environments and the new presentation.
Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX launches February 16, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
For players in the Americas, the release will also close an unusual gap in the franchise’s history by officially bringing the content of GX TAG FORCE 3 to the region nearly two decades after the original game’s debut.
